Yonder Mini Mal

From £675.00

Custom shaped for you and ready in 4 to 5 weeks.

Designed in collaboration with my friends at Yonder, tuned and proven over hundreds of lessons and years of experience. Here’s what they have to say about the board:

“The first step off of a soft-top or a ‘foamie’ is a really important one in anyone’s surfing journey. What we are looking for is a really nice neutral board that will offer us a good balance of stability and manoeuvrability for both paddling and surfing.

These boards are tried and tested; the outline, rocker, volume distribution and rails are designed specifically for solidifying the fundamentals of surfing. Nearly all of the women that have recently been on our intermediate coaching courses started, or are still surfing Yonder Mini-mals. We also use them on our surf lessons and camps too. A good Mini-mal will take a surfer from learning to get in trim, to performing some turning manoeuvres and drawing lines on the face of a wave. Great for learning the fundamental manoeuvres in surfing; bottom and top turns and up to re-directs and re-entries – this level of board will be useful for a good part of a surfers learning journey giving them a great starting chance.”

Stock dimensions – 7’6 x 22 x 2 3/4

We’re spec’ing these with a three fin thruster setup with Futures fin plugs.

For every Yonder Mini Mal sold we’re donating a portion of profits to the Yonder Surf Academy CIC, an initiative to inspire and support marginalised women and girls to build confidence, self-esteem and positive mental health.

UK Shipping

We offer free shipping on small goods such as hardware and apparel when you spend over £80.

Shipping for small goods as part of an order under £80 is £3.50.

Surfboard shipping is based on size and weight, and can be calculated at checkout. Shipping boards is really expensive and we actually subsidise every order that goes out by courier, in order to make it accessible to our customers. Alternatively you can collect from the factory (read below).

Click & Collect

Free collection is available from our workshop. We always prefer to meet you in person and ensure your board gets to you safely. It also gives us a chance for a factory tour and an insight into how every board is made. We’re just 10 minutes from some of the best waves in the South West so provide the perfect excuse for a trip down. Please arrange in advance to make sure we’re not off running errands. We can normally open specially for collection upon request as the workshop is just down the road (subject to availability).

Returns

Custom surfboards are exempt from our standard returns policy. Returns must be made within 14 days of receiving the goods, and we will issue a refund within 7 working days of the goods being sent back to us. Please include your name address when you send back returned goods so we can track your order. Return postage must be paid by the customer for unwanted goods.

The first step off of a soft-top or a ‘foamie’ is a really important one in anyone’s surfing journey. What we are looking for is a really nice neutral board that will offer us a good balance of stability and manoeuvrability for both paddling and surfing. There are so many benefits to riding a fibreglass board over a foamie; the stiffness and rigidity of the board and fins makes a fibreglass board much more responsive and the precision in which we can shape rails in traditional surfboard production over the way foamies are made means that we can make a board that works properly when the rail is engaged in the wave – this is probably the most important difference between a foamie and a ‘real’ surfboard, the fact that the rail can really engage with the wave and create hold and stability when riding down the line and learning to turn!

These boards are tried and tested; the outline, rocker, volume distribution and rails are designed specifically for solidifying the fundamentals of surfing. Each board is shaped by Ollie Cooper at his small surfboard factory/workshop in Cornwall using the finest quality raw materials, glassed, sanded and finished by hand with love, passion and experience.

There is nothing on the market currently that is available to buy off the shelf that offers this kind of shape, size and volume. The Indio, Torq, Cortez, NSP, Hawaiian Soul etc are boards that are mass produced in the far east – they are a little cheaper, yes. If they were good boards, we would be using them to coach with and and selling them through Yonder, in fact, we have a trade account with NSP and can make a 50% mark-up on them. We instead opt to not make any money from these Cooper boards but know that we are helping people to invest in themselves properly.

In our house we are on our eighth custom board from Ollie and we trust his work, his expertise and his vision implicitly and we love to see him building a life for himself around his passion for making great quality surfboards.
